They got an invitation to the King on the land. Forest Witches never have been invited before. They have been mostly avoided creatures, except when they were needed by the locals for their knowledge in witchcraft. But in these cases, the locals went to the altars where they left their request and the payment, and the next day returning, they found their elixirs, healing balms, or amulettes. They never met the witches before.

At least this is what they thought.

Because answering the invitation, they arrived. First, the people waiting for them saw nothing. Then the ground trembled under their feet and in front of them, three seedlings started to break toward the sky with unnatural speed. And in a moment they grew into massive tree trunks and branches. In the end, the trees’ features turned into human shapes, and there they stood: the witches of the forest.

Everyone stared in awe because they recognized the trees. These were the trees that stood around the altars where they always left their offerings and requests.

So this is how it happened that it turned out, the witches weren’t so much unknown, after all.
